Well qualified candidates are sought for the position of chief executive officer of a newly created independent State agency to serve agricultural and resource based business and industry in Maryland. The position requires excellent human relations skills, knowledge of issues pertaining to rural economic development, and familiarity with public and private sector financing programs that serve agricultural and resource-based industries. Candidates should have demonstrated ability to work independently, speak publicly, organize and manage staff, and interact effectively with public officials, industry representatives, and members of rural communities.
Qualified candidates will possess a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as: finance, business administration, economics, agriculture, agricultural economics, forestry, fisheries, or related areas of study. Candidates will also have:
- At least five years of experience with organization(s) involved in rural economic or community development;
- Familiarity with federal and state rural development programs;
- At least five years of responsible management experience;
- Some knowledge of commercial lending practices;
- Computer proficiency in office software (preferably Microsoft Office).
A Master’s degree in a relevant discipline may substitute for two years of
required experience. The Executive Director will also be
responsible for hiring additional staff and developing the programs of
this new agency.
A competitive salary ($95,000 to $115,000) and benefits
package will be negotiated by the Board of Directors.
