COMMUNICATIONS ASSOCIATE/SPECIALIST – AGRICULTURE (Full-time)

‍Well-qualified candidates are sought for a full-time position with a quasi-governmental (nonprofit) organization providing financial and business development assistance to agricultural and resource-based businesses in Maryland. The incumbent develops and helps implement communications and marketing activities, drafts written materials and meeting minutes, coordinates publication design (including an annual report), maintains a website, arranges occasional meetings and events, participates in trade shows, and assists with special projects in a small, busy office.

‍Candidates should be well organized, self-motivated, and able to work independently, and ideally have a background in agriculture, forestry, or commercial seafood. Applicants must also possess strong interpersonal, writing, and oral communication skills, as well as an aptitude for attention to detail. Excellent writing and proof-reading skills required. The candidate must be able to manage several projects simultaneously, occasionally work flexible hours, and travel around the State of Maryland by personal automobile. The opportunity to work remotely outside of the Annapolis office is permitted two days per week.

Candidates must possess an associate’s degree in journalism, Communications, English, Agricultural Education, Ag Economics, Natural Resources, or a related field, and have some experience in writing/editing for publications production and other marketing or communications activities. A bachelor’s or master’s degree in a relevant discipline is very desirable.

Candidates should be proficient in Microsoft Office software. Some proficiency with desktop publishing and website maintenance software is also desirable. For best consideration, please respond by June 17, 2026. (Position is open until filled.)

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, Maryland Agricultural and Resource-Based Industry Development Corporation

Well-qualified candidates are sought for the chief executive officer position with a dynamic and nationally recognized state agricultural development finance authority serving Maryland’s commercial farming, forestry, and seafood industries. The position, which reports to the Board of Directors, manages nearly 20 revolving loan and other financial assistance programs and oversees a staff of ten. This position requies excellent human relations skills, as well as broad knowledge of matters pertaining to rural economic development, commercial capital and credit, and familiarity with public and private sector programs that serve agricultural and resource-based industries. A track record suggestive of energetic leadership and experience in effectively interacting with rural community and industry leaders, public officials, and other relevant food system stakeholders is also desired. (Note: The incumbent is retiring after 20 years of service.)


Qualified candidates will possess a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field of study and have at least eight (8) years of administrative/management responsibility in an organization(s) involved in rural economic development, agricultural finance, or a related field. Knowledge of federal and Maryland agricultural or rural development programs and policies and/or commercial lending practices is also desirable. Candidates should be proficient in Microsoft Office software, including Excel. A master’s degree in a relevant discipline may substitute for one year of required professional experience. A competitive starting salary ($150,000 to $200,000, depending on level of experience and qualifications) and a comprehensive benefits package (including generous leave and paid state holidays, retirement contributions, and health insurance) will be offered.
